このサイトの特色と著者の思い

この画文集は恋する画家との秘密の語らいである。このサイトは表題にあるように「画家の気持ち」を画家になって探るものである。画家とは原作を描いた画家であり、それを模写している私でもある。このサイトに掲載されている絵は全て私が描いたものである。本物とはサイズが異なるし、画材も異なる。描いている過程で私の思いが入り込み、だいぶ原作とは異なるかもしれない。もとよりそっくりに描くことが目的ではない。

ここにとりあげた画家は、ひとえに私にとって興味がある画家であり、美術史上の関連性はない。ルネサンスの画家もいれば、現代の画家もいる。絵を実際に模写していると、鑑賞するだけでは決して得ることができない生の感慨が起こってくる。一枚の絵と何日も何日も悪戦苦闘しながら付き合っていると、次第に画家が「実はね･･･」と話しかけてくれる。事業家であった私が画家になるために何よりも知りたかった、画家の気持ちを教えてくれる。それはとても幸せな時間だ。

私の絵は全て独学なので、画材の扱いから絵画技法に至るまで何も知らなかった。だからとりあえず、幼児の頃からだれもが知っているお馴染みのクレヨンを買ってきて描くことにしたのだが、形状が似ているパステルを間違って買ってきてしまった。高かった割にはぼろぼろと折れるパステルに閉口しながら、画材屋に一緒に買うように言われたスプレー（フキサチーフ）をやたらと振りかけて、とにかく上の子が下の子を抱きかかえている絵を描いた。動機と画題が良かったのか、私はまずは自分の子供を専門に描く画家になった。絵は私にとって愛情を表現するためのものだ。自分の心を離れない、描かずにはいられない感情を表現するのが画家なのだと私は思う。

絵はだれにも相談せずに描くことができるのがいい。ビジネスではさすがにそうはいかない。はじめは仕事の合間をみて描いていたが、行き詰まった仕事を逃避するかのように描いている自分に苦笑してしまう。仕事がうまく行っていない時に限って絵がうまく仕上がったりして、思わずまた苦笑してしまう。何億円もするだろう絵を描くのだってお金はかからない。おまけに画家自らが、画家はいかなる気持ちで絵に取り組むべきなのかを、こっそりと教えてくれる。私はこうして画家になった。國井正人

The Unique Features of This Site and the Author’s Intentions　

This site is a secret conversation with the artists (painters and sculptors) I am in love with. As the title suggests, this site explores the “feelings of the painter” by becoming a painter myself. The painter refers both to the original artist who created the work and to myself, who copies it. All the paintings displayed on this site are painted by me. They differ in size and materials from the originals. My thoughts and feelings might seep into the process, possibly making them quite different from the originals. The goal was never to replicate the originals exactly. The artists featured here are simply those I find interesting, with no regard for their historical art relevance. There are Renaissance painters as well as contemporary ones. When actually copying a painting, one experiences a raw emotional response that cannot be obtained from mere observation. Spending days struggling with a single painting, gradually, it feels as if the painter begins to speak to me, revealing the “actually, you know…” moments. As a businessman turned painter, it was these feelings of the artist that I wanted to learn more than anything. It has been a truly happy time.

Since I am entirely self-taught in painting, I knew nothing about handling materials or painting techniques. So, I decided to start with crayons, familiar to everyone from childhood, but accidentally bought pastels because they looked similar. Frustrated with the expensive pastels that easily broke, I ended up heavily spraying the fixative recommended by the art store and painted a picture of an older sibling holding a younger one. Maybe it was the motive and the subject matter, but I initially became an artist specializing in painting my own children. To me, painting is a means of expressing love. I believe that an artist expresses emotions that they cannot help but draw.

The nice thing about painting is that you can do it without consulting anyone, which is not always possible in business. Initially, I painted in between work, but I couldn’t help but laugh at myself for painting as if to escape from my stalled work. Ironically, my paintings turned out well precisely when my business wasn’t going well, making me laugh again. Painting, even if it would be worth millions of dollars, doesn’t cost money.
