樹木素描
人生の後半色彩に開花するルドンであるが、ルドンはあらゆる色の中で黒が一番本質的で不思議な力を持つと言っている。ルドンにとって黒は色彩なのだ。私は黒い木炭だけで描かれた「樹のデッサン」を鉛筆で描くことにする。ルドンが描くと何の変哲もない樹が不思議な雰囲気を醸し出す。
ルドンは若いころ、レオナルド・ダ・ヴィンチのデッサンを盛んに模写していたと言われているが、ルドンのデッサンに霊性が漂っているのはそのせいなのかもしれない。樹そのものの描写は案外普通に描かれているので、余計に不思議に思えてしまう。それでもよく観ると、ルドンが描く樹は枝に比較して幹がずいぶんと太い。人体を象徴しているのだろうか。樹は不自然な位画面の上部に偏って描かれており、何もない白い地面の面積が広くとられている。上部の枝が霞んでいるように黒く描かれているのは白い空白との対比なのだろうか。
「ルドンの樹」を描いていると、人生の下積みが長く、やっと花開いたルドンの人生を象徴しているように思えてくるのだった。
Tree
In the latter half of his life, Redon blossomed into color, yet he said that among all colors, black held the most essential and mysterious power. To Redon, black was a color. I decide to draw “The Drawing of a Tree” with black charcoal, as Redon’s ordinary trees emit a mysterious aura.
It is said that in his youth, Redon frequently copied Leonardo da Vinci’s drawings, which may be why his drawings exude spirituality. The trees themselves are depicted quite ordinarily, making them appear all the more mysterious. Yet, on closer inspection, the trunks Redon draws are much thicker than the branches, perhaps symbolizing the human body. The trees are unnaturally biased towards the top of the canvas, with a large area of blank, white ground. The branches at the top are painted black as if misted, contrasting with the white void.
Drawing “Redon’s Tree,” it seems to symbolize Redon’s life, which after a long struggle, finally blossomed.

在人生後半期開始著色的路頓，認為在所有顏色中，黑色擁有最本質且神秘的力量。對路頓來說，黑色是一種顏色。我決定僅用黑色木炭來繪製「樹木素描」，並以鉛筆完成之。路頓畫的普通樹木展現出神秘的氣息。年輕時，路頓據說經常臨摹達文西的素描，這或許是他的素描中散發靈性的原因。樹木的描繪看似普通，卻令人感到不可思議。細看之下，路頓畫的樹木其幹相比枝條要粗得多，這可能象徵著人體。樹木不自然地偏向畫面上方，留下大片空白的白色地面。上方枝條如霧般被黑色描繪，可能是與白色空白形成對比。畫著「路頓的樹」，似乎象徵著路頓經歷長時間的打拼後，終於開花結果的人生。
